Ken Attenhofer's Photos
This is the first of several pages of black and white photos sent to me by Ken Attenhofer, who worked at LeConte Lodge in the early- to mid-1960's. Ken and I were at the Lodge together for one summer -- may have been the summer of 1963 or 1964. Ken's parents came up to the Lodge and his father took these photos using his Leica M3 camera (would I love to have on old M3 about now!). I'll post these photos on several pages -- this is page one of Ken's photos.

Herrick Brown -- "Brownie" -- and his wife Myrtle owned LeConte Lodge -- they purchased it from the original owner Jack Huff in the late 1950's. Brownie was an amateur radio operator; his call sign was W4ZZ. Because the Lodge was located on top of a mountain at almost 6,500 feet elevation, it made a great radio operating location. Brownie had a small ham radio station set up in this cabin, which also served as crew bunkhouse. There were two double beds, bunked -- sleeping accommodations for four; a wood-burning stove; a kettle for heating water; couple of tables, and four chairs; and the chest you see next to Ken. The Coleman lantern was our light source, as well as a couple of kerosene lanterns.
